Our client felt that the entrance to the front of the property had become too crowded, and wanted to increase the feeling of space, whilst retaining the feature Photinia trees.

In addition, the piece of lawn and garden at the front of the house was difficult to maintain, and needed refreshing.

The client wanted paving that was hard wearing and was easy to keep looking good, and they wanted a design that reflected the work we had undertaken for them previously in the back garden.

We designed a new space which created a larger welcoming area in front of the main doors, paved in a neutral coloured, hard wearing porcelain tile, edged with sandstone blocks.

We began by removing eighteen tons of soil and waste from the garden, which allowed us to level the front part of the garden.

The retaining wall was created with upended oak sleepers. These are strapped together to make a solid unit, and then buried a meter in the ground. The space around them is concrete filled to ensure they are structurally sound.

We then infilled the upper level with hardcore, which is levelled and compacted to ensure a solid surface for installing the paving and edging.

We also create new steps leading to the property, increasing their width and tread depth, creating a much more relaxed entrance way.

We installed Marshalls Symphony porcelain paving, which is a high quality and hard wearing tile. Due to its non-porous nature it does not suffer from algae growth or staining from weather.

Finally the front garden was levelled out, and the lawn reduced in size and edged with contemporary anthracite steel edging, for a crisp finish.
